Pride in NYC

I understand why not knowing where you might sleep on a given night could cause some people anxiety; but, honestly, that complete spontineity and lack of knowing is something I thrive on. Sure, lack of planning can lead to some miserable moments but its all worth it. Because it is only when you have no plan that great unknown things are allowed to take place. This past weekend was one of those times where not planning paid off.On Saturday morning I woke up after a night out feeling like I needed to get away for a little adventure. My sister Katie hopped on board and we drove to South Station to catch the Fung Wah bus to New York City. The ride did not make up the most comfortable four hours of my life but it was worth the $15 and we arrived in Chinatown by early afternoon. While devouring an order of chicken fingers and a plate of sliders after our long bus ride my sister and I got to talking to a guy near us at the bar. He was in his mid thirties, had the gift of gab and a fantastic smile. After finding out that we had no place to stay he told us that he worked at the W hotel across the street and would be happy to hook us up with a generous discount. Two hours later we found ourselves checking in to the W hotel in Times Square. And since we probably won't be able to afford that room again any time in the near future we made sure we enjoyed every moment of it.

Our trip to New York was hard and fast. We bar hopped that night meeting lots of interesting people along the way. The next morning we enjoyed some fresh bagels (they are just so much better in NY) and went exploring. We were excited to run into the Gay Pride Parade. The whole event was so New York; colorful, outrageous, diverse, and full of energy. The amount of support there was incredible. It was really awesome to see everyone- gay, straight and otherwise...peacefully and proudly enjoying themselves on such a beautiful day.

I really do love New York. Each trip there, no matter how long, is stimulating, inspiring and refreshing. I already can't wait to go back.
