After recently dealing with my first impossible client it was an absolute breath of fresh air to work with the Sierra family. Many people overlook the social aspect of professional photography; but it is critical. My goal as a journalistic photographer is to capture people as they are, doing what it is that they do (while looking stunning of course); to find an emotion and freeze it. But let's be honest, most people are not themselves in front of a stranger, especially one with a camera. Awkward, fake smiles may fool some, but for me they don't quite cut it. People will show their real, raw wonderful emotions to the camera as soon as they are comfortable with the person behind it.
This past Sunday I shot a baptism and reception. The family was so warm. They opened up to me as if I was one of their own. We clicked and I think it shows in the pictures. By the time I left I felt as though I had a grasp on each strong but pleasant personality in the room, and they were beginning to catch onto mine. For people like these you want to go over and above; kind, welcoming, and gentle go a long way.
I grow as a professional by dealing with all sorts of clients with all types of personalties. But it is always a joy to work with fun loving, inviting people like the Sierras.
